When making decisions upon what my front cover will
look like I have decided to look at existing magazines that are in the same
genre as my magazine, I have chosen to use the magazines, Vibe, Billboard, XXL
and a lone image of a Canadian rapper called drake, When first looking at the
images they all have both similar and dissimilar features for instance when
looking at the images itself I can see that all images are by themselves and do
not have accomplices with them. This shows that music magazines in this genre
are not usually with a band and they will rather stand out by themselves. This
could also apply to their audience as the audience may attempt to replicate the
artists they see therefore conforming to the social normality of these artists
and what they represent. Secondly however the images are all similar the actors
themselves are all different and have different styles, Eminem is on the cover
of Vibe magazine and he is a white male. Whereas if you compare this to the XXL
magazine front cover it is obvious to see that they are completely different
actors with two contrasting amounts of style. Eminem is wearing a black tank top,
which allows the consumers to see the tattoos that the actor has. Tattoos often
signify danger and a source of rebellion against social norms. The actor is
also wearing dark clothing this shows that the actor may be feared due to the
clothing making him mysterious and also intriguing to the reader. Whereas the
gentle man on the cover of the XXL magazine is wearing a very heavily white
dominated clothes. This may suggest purity and also the fact that the artist is
peaceful. This shows two very contrasting front covers with the XXL cover using
a technique of BOW. BOW makes the magazine cover unique from other existing
magazine covers from different media publications as it makes the cover look different
and quite trendy. I think the contrast of Grey and white work effectively in
making the magazine look both formal and grabs the attention of the readers.
